Through my photography I endeavor to create awareness and understanding of the mystery and beauty of life in the natural world. Rather than rely on traditional photographic techniques and viewpoints, I try to get the lens and film into the middle of the action, to search out the feeling as well as the form.
I find that when I stay in one place, close to the ground with eyes and lens alert, my view of the world is transformed and my opportunity for seeing and thinking is expanded.

Sharing a discovery is one of a photographer's joys. Another is to encourage other people to look closer and to make their own discoveries. As little children, we all start out with eyes close to the ground -- seeing, feeling, smelling, exploring, and learning. Seeing with a camera is the best way I have found to feel close to the earth again.

I tend to be impatient with equipment and with myself because the image I see now may not exist in another minute; the frost is melting, the bubbles under the ice are moving, and so are the clouds and the sun. You never know if the frog will jump before you're ready, and he usually does.

Encountering the natural world through the lens of my camera is an excellent reminder that I share this earth as environment with all other living things, and also share responsibility for its well-being. Beauty is an indicator not only of harmonious growth and interaction in a balanced biome, but something more -- an essential manifestation of aliveness.
